I completed my qualifications more than 2 years ago, can I register with Physical Activity Australia?

We recognise Australian awarded qualifications achieved from 2000 onwards, however qualifications gained more than 2 years ago will require 6 Professional Development Points (PDPs), current Level 2 First Aid and CPR certificates in order to obtain registration.  In some cases, we may require additional PDPs.

How long do my First Aid and CPR qualifications last for?

  • Your First Aid qualification is valid for 3 years.
  • Your CPR qualification is valid for 12 months.

I hold a current Level 2 First Aid Certificate. Why is it necessary to undertake an annual CPR qualification?

The Australian Resuscitation Council strongly recommends that CPR be updated annually and therefore it is a requirement of registration that all components of a First Aid qualification are maintained.

Where can I access information about workshops and courses accredited by Physical Activity Australia?

Please refer to our List of Accredited Courses and Workshops which details specific programs accredited by Physical Activity Australia.

Why do I have to show evidence of attendance at workshops and provide professional development points (PDPs) when I renew my registration?

Completing a fitness qualification is just the start of your learning. Research is constantly undertaken within the industry and you need to maintain your standards and competencies to ensure you are delivering quality programs. We accredit a vast array of workshops and courses which can be undertaken face-to-face, online and by correspondence.

What should I do in order to be eligible for other categories of registration?

You need to complete training in subcategories through specialisation units of the Sport, Fitness and Recreation Training Package or National Fitness Industry Training Package.

You will need to determine if the Registered Training Organisation offers the particular unit you wish to complete. Click here for unit codes.

My registration is due to expire. How do I achieve my professional development points (PDPs)?

To renew your registration with Physical Activity Australia you are required to obtain a minimum of 6 PDPs. PDPs are earned through fitness industry employment, attendance at workshops, courses and events, industry memberships and subscriptions, lecturing or presenting, and relevant research projects.

How do I get insurance?

We offer insurance online through JLT Sport. All current Physical Activity Australia registrants are able to obtain Public Liability / Professional Indemnity Insurance (including all policy documents) in under 10 minutes by completing the brief online application form and paying by credit card.

Note: It is important to remember that this insurance package is only available to current registrants. If your registration expires, your insurance cover will be deemed invalid until you renew your registration. I have an overseas qualification, how do I register with Physical Activity Australia?

Exercise professionals who have attained their qualifications overseas should submit a registration application for our review. Depending on the result of the assessment the exercise professional:

  • may receive the current qualification as part of the national fitness package
  • may receive some credits and be required to undertake the remainder units
  • may be required to undertake the entire fitness qualification.

Does Physical Activity Australia recognise REPs registration?
