As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, most of us have been spending a lot more time at home. This situation has required a significant adjustment for people whose primary hobbies involved leaving the house. This is particularly true for people who regularly work out at gyms and/or crowded outdoor spaces.
Just because we are required to stay home to stop the spread of COVID-19 doesn’t mean we can’t workout at home.
Staying active at home requires a manageable schedule appropriate for your lifestyle and abilities.
One way to stay active at home is to try yoga or Pilates. Both these techniques have a variety of health benefits, such as increased flexibility, good heart health, reduction in chronic pain and benefits for mental well-being.
Equipment-free strength training exercises are another way to keep active at home. Examples include: Sit-ups, squats, push-ups, and a variety of core exercises.
Another way to increase activity is to play movement-orientated video games. Go for games that have physical fitness as the primary goal and promote movement.
Trying to resist junk food craving is important whilst spending more time at home. There is certainly nothing wrong with the occasional snack or food indulgence to satisfy cravings and provide some comfort. The most important thing is not to give in to every craving and opt for more health-conscious snacks to moderate cravings.
